Health workers are adding clinic hours to vaccinate Eaton county residents after an outbreak of Hepatitis A.
According to the Barry-Eaton District Health Department, four people have contracted Hepatitis A since December of 2017 and one of those patients died.
Between August 2016 and January 31, 2018, more than 700 Michiganders have contracted the illness. 24 deaths have been reported.
Hepatitis A is a contagious liver diseasethat is vaccine-preventable. It can spread easily among people who live together and sexual partners.
Symptoms include fatigue, stomach pain, jaundice (yellowish) skin, dark urine and pale stool. However, some patients do not exhibit symptoms.
Because of the outbreak in Eaton county, the health department added vaccination clinic hours. Appointments for vaccinations are not required.
The Barry-Eaton District Health Department will offer walk-in Hepatitis A vaccinations at its Charlotte office on Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. The office is located at 1033 Health Care Drive.
There is also an after-hour clinic for vaccinations on Wednesdays 5:00-7:00 p.m.
